In recent weeks, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited has completed two key moves, one toward the sea and one toward the land. Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited first took part in the 48th FIPP World Media Congress in Madrid, Spain, joining publishers from Europe and Latin America in discussions on cross-border cooperation in academic publishing. It then signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Tianjin Publishing International Culture Development Co., Ltd., bringing mainland copyright and academic resources into Hong Kong's international hub. One outward, one inward, the two are steps of a single international strategy: with Hong Kong as the fulcrum, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited aims both to take Chinese scholarship out into the world and to channel what it learns back into the academic communities of Hong Kong and the mainland.
Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited works from its position as a bridge between East and West. It focuses on high-end academic content publishing and cross-border academic dissemination, supporting the continued development of academic communities in Hong Kong and on the mainland. Against this backdrop, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited's business has always been laid out with both sides in view: outward, it pursues practical international cooperation and takes part in exchanges across the global publishing industry; inward, it works in depth with the mainland, drawing on the mainland's rich academic content and copyright resources to consolidate the local foundations of its business.
Onto the International Stage: Expanding Overseas Channels of Cooperation
From 13 to 15 October, the 48th FIPP World Media Congress, organised by FIPP, the international federation of periodical publishers, was held in Madrid, Spain. During the Congress, representatives of Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited took the initiative to hold face-to-face discussions with publishers, publishing groups and other institutions from a number of countries, exchanging views in depth on international copyright cooperation for academic journals, multilingual publication of academic monographs, digital licensing of academic content and AI-assisted publishing workflows, and identifying potential opportunities for cooperation.
During these exchanges, representatives of Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited said that attending the FIPP World Media Congress was not only a chance to present its capabilities, but also an opportunity to learn at close hand from the experience of publishing peers around the world. Discussions of leading topics β how artificial intelligence is reshaping publishing, open access and digital licensing β offered Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited points of reference it can draw on, and opened a systematic path for it to continue expanding international copyright cooperation and support the cross-border dissemination of quality academic outputs, working from its base in Hong Kong and Macao.
Partnering with the Mainland: Strengthening the Domestic Foundation for International Work
Even as it reaches outward for global resources, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited has been advancing industrial cooperation at home. On 15 October, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony with Tianjin Publishing International Culture Development Co., Ltd. Both parties reached a common understanding in areas such as international academic publishing and the global communication of Chinese culture, and formally signed a strategic cooperation agreement, opening a new chapter of in-depth and coordinated development.
Liu Jinquan, President of Tianjin People's Publishing House; Shen Huixiang, Senior Expert; and Zhao Nai, Director of the Journals Division, attended the ceremony, together with Du Mengmeng, Editor-in-Chief of Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited. Du Mengmeng and Shen Lin, Deputy General Manager of Tianjin Publishing International Culture Development Co., Ltd., signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. At the signing, leaders of both parties delivered remarks in turn and, drawing on their respective resources and industry strengths, held in-depth discussions on the direction and vision of the cooperation. After the signing, participants held a themed seminar on resource sharing, complementary strengths and project implementation, and reached broad consensus. In the period ahead, both parties will give full play to their respective advantages and deepen coordination in international publishing planning, copyright import and export, content development, the application of digital technologies, and the development and operation of channels, so that each area of cooperation delivers concrete results.
Two Lines Converge: Building an International Academic Dissemination System with Hong Kong as the Fulcrum
From taking part in the FIPP World Media Congress in Madrid to completing the strategic signing with Tianjin Publishing International, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited is working to build a two-way development path that combines overseas resource engagement with domestic industrial coordination.
Through its participation in overseas congresses, Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited gains access to cutting-edge industry information and expands its network of contacts; Tianjin Publishing International contributes its strengths in copyright management and project execution, providing solid domestic business support for international cooperation. At the same time, Tianjin Publishing International can draw on the capacity of Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited to connect academic communities across borders to open new channels for copyright exports, bringing the extensive book and academic copyright resources of Tianjin Publishing and Media Group Co., Ltd. into fuller use, in step with the group's "going global" publishing strategy.
A representative of Hong Kong Sourcefount Press Limited said that the cross-border dissemination of academic outputs is not a simple one-way export of content, but a two-way flow of publishing and copyright resources between China and the rest of the world. Looking ahead, the two partners will continue to make use of the value of Hong Kong as a window, jointly refine academic publishing products for international markets, and explore practical paths for bringing Chinese academic content to a global audience.
